'Creative Chain Bulgaria' was the first group exhibition of its kind in the country — contemporary digital art shown inside a blockchain conference rather than beside one. It was organised by the Kazanlak collective TLAKA, led by Nikola Valchev, as part of the programme of ETH Sofia 2025, a two-day forum drawing over 550 participants and 80 speakers from more than twenty countries to Sofia Tech Park.

The exhibition occupied one of three zones created by hanging long, heavy dark curtains across a single large hall...

‘In a world of accelerated urbanization and digital oversaturation, the Made in Leshten project offers not an escape, but a return — to nature, to silence, to the primordial rhythm of existence. For а fourth year, a group of young visual artists withdrew for a two-week residency in the village of Leshten, where time thickens and the senses sharpen. There, nature is not merely a background — it is a partner, a material, a conversational companion of thought...

CONTACT
Borya Shapshalova (b. 1989, Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria), aka BoryaXYZ, is a Sofia-based interdisciplinary new media artist working across digital painting, metaverse environments, generative systems, and sculpture.

She layers digital composition with transparency, iteration, and procedural generation to surface the invisible patterns that shape identity and echo the systems running beneath daily life. The goal is less to illustrate these structures than to let the viewer feel them.

She is best known for her metaverse environments and natively digital curation, and she continues to build generative and sound-informed pieces alongside individual works. Notable work includes 'Pixel-Woven Landscapes' and 'DIGITAL CHERGA', developed during the MADE IN LESHTEN Vol.4 Residency (2025), which reimagine traditional Bulgarian landscape and textile through generative processes, translating digitally native work into physical objects and sculpture; 'EVAH Genesis Sculpture'; and her VR piece 'Can I Fly to Jupiter with You on Thursday', presented at Sofia Art Fair 2025.

Borya has exhibited in the UK, France, the USA, Germany, Spain, Estonia, Finland, Vietnam, and Bulgaria, as well as at specialized events across the blockchain and digital arts field. Her work is held in private collections worldwide.

TIME TRAVEL FOR DUMMIES
2023
'TIME TRAVEL FOR DUMMIES' is a collection of 12 unique pieces inspired by Clifford Simak's book 'Time is the simplest thing' (published 1961) where a telepath accidentally acquires a powerful alien consciousness and must run to escape corporate assassins and angry mobs.

The artworks were initially created physically via methods of abstract expressionism. Materials used: latex, spray paint, cardboard, newspaper, plastic bags, industrial mesh. Then, the scanned artworks were given a digital generative treatment to present a fine pixelated effect visible when an artwork is viewed in detail...

HyperEVAH
2022
HyperEVAH is a generative audio-reactive body of work that interrogates the boundaries between physical embodiment and digital existence through 3D scanning technology, metaverse architecture, and digital sculpture.

LineMAT Series
2022
LineMAT is a series of generative digital works that explores the visualization of geometric structures and vector fields.

The series demonstrates how simple geometric primitives—spheres, grids, and basic shapes—can be transformed into complex organic-appearing structures through layered computational processes. By applying noise functions, fractal subdivision, and normal vector visualization, the artist creates works that oscillate between mathematical precision and biological suggestion...
